There's a couple of reasons why I keep Flowerhorns and fish in general. I like raising them up from babies and seeing how they turn out. It's definitely a stress reliever to sit and watch the fish. |

if it was for stress relieving, I would buy me a stress relieving machine instead. my reason would be the challenge of it. IT all started with 1 because someone be big mouth and talk about it like it's the next big thing so you got your feet wet to see what's the hype is all about. Then you read articles on forum like this to learn more and when you learn more, you want more. Your curiousity takes you to the next level as you continue adding for upgrades and then you figure out that you too can breed to make your own. You also learn about the grading aspect of these fish for 2 are never the same or alike since first prize can only be handled by one. Then you learned that the value of these fish continues to go up when the fish grows bigger. So you bought a fry at $5 and in 1 year, that fish grows up to be a $20 fish (I'm being generous here). That is a 400% profit margin there. If people who play the stock market knows that 400% in 1 year of gain is really a big gain. But then offcourse, it's not a liquid value but a asset value. You are only worth $20 richer if you sell your fish. It is this principle of gaining for your hard effort that makes the hobby so challenging and fh had not disappointed me yet. If I do it to impress the ladies, I would buy me a gold teeth instead. |

While I do keep fish for stress relief amongst other reasons. To me Flowerhorn provide the fish keeper a unique opportunity to go interactive with the fish keeping hobby that no other aggressive fish offers. They offer you the chance to compete and also provide a change to strive to create your own notch. With the uncountable different strains and the ever changing Flowerhorn out there. They open up a doorway to a never dead ending road! One reason people get out of the hobby is for that reason. It almost pushed me out many times years ago. Your list can only be so big, and once you acquire all the species you once dreamed of having and have raised them, breed them, then what? You get bored! Things are no longer fun and you start to loss it. Flowerhorn breathed that live back into it for me and promise to never let it slip away. Even before I found Flowerhorn I have always favored fresh water over salt. Not that I have not kept salt because I have and am well versed in it as well, and off coarse I see the beauty in it. However freshwater has always intrigued me more just something about it. One thing that sucked though is the biggest b*tch that everyone has that are new to the hobby when comparing the two. The lack of color. Once again Flowerhorn fill that void. Why do I keep them for so many reasons but most of all they are the total package in my book its a beautiful thing |

Why do I keep Flowerhorns? I have kept pretty much every fish made available to the fish hobby. FHs opened up a whole new world of fish keeping. Its like starting over again becuase there are so many different kinds and colors. |

 WHY now that the ? I got started by accident. it all started when i sold off my last angel fry. and the miss wanted me too try to raise some thing different. so we both went to the local pet / fish store and looked for what seemed a good hour. when we decided on the fish. we were told they where jack dempsey's. and at that time they were only an inch and a half. so i said we will take them and i got 5 german blue rams as well. so when we got home i went on line to find out more about the rams and the so called jack dempsey. well come to find out i didnt have jack dempsey i had flower horns. and when i did more home work this web site keeped comin up. well the members here do a great job on informing people on the hobby. because after looking at all the great looking fish on this site I said that i would like to have the best some day. so the reason why. is because flowerhornrus opened my eye to the JEWEL of the fresh water world.

 I lost my first flower horn yesterday. and its not like i havent lost fish to death before. but i tryed so hard not to lose her. and on top of that all my tanks for some reason had bio crash. every thing droped off the charts. the PH droped to low 6.0 and would not stable it self. and the water turned a whiteish hue. the only thing i can think may have happened was when i stoped using R/O water. and started to use the tap water. and i used all the things that break the AMM, and even detoxifing Nitrite, Nitrate. and i even filtered the water in my house. and really that part is... in 25 years with raising and breedin angels, discus, and oscars I never had the problems like i do now. she was the last fish from my very first breeding of flowerhorns  and no she wasn't a MP by a long shot.. but i seen some thing in her with the start of her pearls.  just needed to vent my pain. i wasn't even going to say any thing about it. but when i came online and seen this post on why we raise FH Now i know why because its some thing we all love too do. and i will keep learning and triing my best to have the best flower horns some day. and for a lending ear

that is an awesome female bro scotty..so  what you talking about.. you could of been able to get more stuff out of her if she didnt have to go..about the situation.. not sure how bad your water for the house is.. me i always uses tap water.. add some aquarium salt.. barely any conditioner.. only add conditioners/stress coats when i would first set up the tank.. im wondering how many fish per tank you have and how much and often do you do your waterchanges... also with bioloads... how often and what you feed yours fish.. what type filters you have.. for i know with me.. just sponges and a heater would do me ok here.. sorry for the lost bro.. i will try to keep this post in mind as i go through time..youre not that far from shipping a fish over

I have 7 tanks. one is a 70gal with 2 fish and both are about 6.5 and 7 inchs long. one 65gal. with 2 fish. both are 12 inchs. I also have three 55gal tanks with 2 fish in each and all of them are about 6 inchs. I also have a 40gal with only one fish. and that one fish is the Kamfa i got from you. and a 15gal that has about 35 to 40 baby fish that are about 1 to 1.5 inch. and i try to feed my fish 2 too 3 times a day. and they all eat like pigs. i feed them GS O and Hikari pellets and blood worm in the morning and in the afternoon i feed them krill and in the evening i feed them GS red and bloodworm. and i try to vac all the waste up in there tanks every other day. and i do water changes every week about 20%. as far as our water in florida its bad. AMM. 5.0 ppm Nitrite 5.0 ppm PH 8.0 KH .0 Nitrate 100 ppm and its very very soft. and as far as the filters. all my 55gals have Marineland penguin 200 with filter spongs. my 65 has 2 peguin 200 with a spong. and my 70 has 2 peguin 350 with a spong. and last tank the 15gal has a aguatech filter. i talked to a few people that i know and they seem to think i make the worst mistake i could have done. i thought a week ago that i gave my fish some krill that i just got from my LFS and the next day one of my fish started to scratch on the filter. and one fish in one of the other tank was doing the same. well i thought they all had ick from the krill. so i pulled all the filter meda and treated for ick. after 2 days of treatment i did a 50% tank change and scrubed all the filter boxs. they said i destroyed all the growth in the filterboxs by cleaning them completely out. I got some stuff from LFS. to treat my tap water. its called Prime. and i went out and got a new R/O system again. just a few payments and one less bill. |

i have 34 tanks that are 30gallons and 3 150 gallon tanks and 4 60gallons tank cause im starting to go into breeding lol jsut a little side project of randy and I. This is jsut for fun and our enjoyment |
