I'm gonna experiment with 2 of my flowerhorns to see how they do with chingmix sp 80 headbooster.
I am no scientist, but a hobbyist just like the rest of you.

So here are my subjects:

1. Humpty-- a 3 inch male zz
Posted Image

2. Einstein-- 5" male gold based zz
Will post pics soon.
3. Abraham--5" male gold based zz
Posted Image

Humpty will be eating Chingmix as a staple but every other day he'll be eating:
Alife, Omega One and Hai Feng Flower treasure.
He'll be fed once a day.

Einstein will be fed only chingmix once a day.

Abraham will be fed Alife, Omega One, Hai Feng Flower treasure on alternate days and will only be fed once a day.

Einstein and Abraham are from the same gene pool.
I'll try to post pics weekly so you can see results.

Please give me feedback about the test parameters I'm setting. (please be nice)

This experiment is going to be interesting and i think an everyday update picture will show results as you put them in time order so good luck to you or at least once a week haha

And I'm very into this type of experimentation:)

Keep up the good work!

Further notes: During this experiment, both Einstein and Abraham will be in a 45 gallon fish tank with dividers separating them. This will maintain that for at least these 2 fish, the water conditions will be the same.

Hello,

I like your experiment. Hope these able to conclude something. By the way how long are you going to run this experiment?

Make sure all paremeters are same for all fish. Just food is different.

Pls update every week.

Thanks,
SIM

I plan on running the experiment for at least one month and a half.

Come to think of it. I might be able to keep all 3 fish in the same tank. However, my concern is that because humpty is smaller, his color and kok may not come out as much because he's less dominant. Also, I'm concerned that their foods might get around my eggcrate dividers and thereby taint the experiment. So, I still may not put all 3 in the tank, just the 2 goldbased zz's. Nevertheless, I will run weekly wc's so as to maintain a close to constant environment. I'll post pictures of the tank set-ups later.

Here are the tank set-ups

The 45 gallon with Einstein on the left and Abraham on the right and a male bp in between who will eat any cross over foods. There's about 15 gallons per fish.

Each tank has a substrate of crushed coral and some blue gravel.

There are no observable differences yet in any of the fish. It may be too soon to tell.

I agree with Vanz the fish are looking better. However they are both at the size and age. Where some development has to occur regardless of how much. If you are going to test the product that it should be tested against another product. I also agree this may be better if the two were of the same batch and strain to make things a bit more even. Good thread though and I will stay tuned for the heck of it thumbs up

Bastardfish, did you mean that all the fish should be from the same gene pool? Yeah, I'd agree. However, at least 2 of the 3 are from the same pool (Abraham and Einstein). But seeing that some people have said that chingmix causes pearl and color loss, I figured it would be good to put my zz in there since my gold based zz's don't really show much pearl. I still believe it's a pretty good experiment.

Thanks for conducting the test.
So far it looks like the pearls are still there and his kok is popping out nicely.
Hopefully you will like the pellet. Best of luck to you and your fishes.
Keep up the great work.

Here they are 2 weeks into the experiment.
Some modifications were made.

Humpty's tank now has sponge filters rather than the hanging filters.
I put my bonsai platinum in between Einstein and Abraham. So, the bonsai is with the bp.

At close to half way into the experiment. I do see that Einstein seems to have more form to his kok.

Also, I have not seen any negative effects on any of the fish. Color has not been lost nor pearls lost on Humpty.
