This very popular breed was made By Ah Soon and Ah Wee. First couple of generations were sold at the A1 Aquarium.

The Thing about this breed is that it was able to preserve the traditional body shape and fins of the Luo Han.

As we go though the pictures, I will try to recall the background of each fish and the time frame it was made.

So much here say about this fish so might as well share here what I know about it.

Some points on JPG:
- It is not a Kamalau. I would call it a Kamfa Luo Han.
-JPG got popular really when the JPG Gen 2 one CAT B aquarama a long time ago. I dont remember the year hehehe
-A good friend of mine Dennis aka Flowerhorn Aquarium was able to purchase a JPG
-Another bro named Castrol knows JPG very well
- Around 4 years ago, my bro Garfield, who probably owns the largest collection of JPG, partnered with Ah Soon to revive the JPG. They were able to produce around 10 to 15 more JPG's all sold here in the Philippines.
- At the end of the partnership, Ah Soon sent his breeders here in the Philippines.
- We never got to breed them again as something one must understand... breeding and producing is one thing.. culling and having an eye to select the one fry that would make it is another.

I know that some of us take out the fish from the tank to show the beauty of the fish.
Check this fish. Notice how solid the body is. Perfect body for me

Well,
I am glad this thread is up and going. I think it is cool that the GM thread through off this awesome thread. I would like to encourage everyone to contribute and start fun threads. I am a total newbie myself but have enjoyed participating on this forum. In fact, I did not own my first FH until 4 months ago. The great thing about participating is that forces you to do research and learn, which is why we are all here. I have learned so much from starting the GM thread that it is not even funny.javascript:emoticon('smiliee')

I think the JPG is an awesome strain. It is interesting that the current strains seem to have lost that thick, powerful build that the Louhan was famous for. I think it would be fun to try and recreate a powerful Louhan from scratch with pure strain fish. In fact, it would be neat to make a Louhan Flowerhornrus breeding project. If multiple members would all agree to cross 2 particular strains of fish, we could share the fry for the next cross. We could then cary the Louhan down to the JPG level and try are hand at recreating it. By using multiple people we could accelerate the process greatly. It would be nice if people wanted to do this if they would respond along with the fish they have they could breed. Maybe Jett could be the Master Breeder and help coordinate the crosses of the different members.

javascript:emoticon('wwohh'), how awesome to even think we could do that. javascript:emoticon('daance')
Talk about Old School!
Jett, if it would not be impossible to do, could you post an example of how starting with 4 pure species ( Trimac, Midas, Vieja (which one) , and KKP) we could breed to the Louhan, and then breed it to the JPG?

One more question for Jett,
Does Garfield still have a large collection of JPG, and does he have an interest in breeding some more?

Thanks,
Ed

definitely one of my all time favs as well. i love how powerful and thick they are. and the sheen looks very consistent and provides good contrast to the red (on some). if i had one of these, i wouldn't need another FH for a while!

this is a nice question... can we still breed a JPG... well if you ask me it is all up to ah Soon or / and Ah Wee.

See the JPis their creation.. meaning they bred it, raised it and culled for it. Yes it is a Kamfa Luohan but I guess the secret to this fish is more of the "ingredients" they chose to use to come up with its trademark face and body plus the choice they made during culling.

I know this sounds weird but imagine this.. the SML which we all know is a KML varriant.. what makes it special? the choice of "ingredients" Sonny and his partner chose plus their culling skilss.

Same with the Golden Apple. There are a couple of folks other than me who have seen the breeders, just like my bro Castrol, but it really does not tell you much.

I believe in FH, it is 20% genes, 20% pumping and 60% the ability of he breeder to spot the one that will make it.

So then it goes back.. it is up to bro Soon and Wee

On the request to post the fathers / mothers of the luohan, I thin Bro Lucky has already posted very good examples of these 4 Cichlids. Even if I post the cichlids it would not make a difference. Here is the thing.. lets name the 4 cichlids as A, B, C and D. We know that there are 4 major strains.. GM, JK, KF and ZZ. Se here is the formula..

A+B+C+D = GM
D+C+B+A = ZZ
C+B+A+D = KF
A+D+C+B = ZZ

of course other formulas can come in to improve the strain example..
KF + CBxDA = Better KF.. so on and so forth.

As such, it would really will not help much.

Now on the old type of KFLuohan.. I think Sonny posted his KFLuohan juvy a couple of months ago which shows there are still KF Luohans there.

There is so much to this hobby that some folks chose to over simplify things. I guess they were after the fact that every one could understand easier. Not knowing with the above analogy on possible combinations to come up with a certain strain.. ergo.. different types of KF like the JPG.
