We all know that KF's are kinda tricky to pump so why not share some new and some old tricks here shall we. I can start this. - Mirrors. Kamfa from sizes 2" to 10 tip to tip loves this. I would suggest to take it out when they get to 10" coz they get to wild hehehe - Shrimps and shrimps and shrimps. KF responds well to this food - Well buffered water. Put in some crushed corals there - Salt... they like water with high mineral content - lots of food.. KF are hard to over feed unlike ZZ's - NO NO to chlorine and ammonia spikes

I do that by buffering the water with a lot of crushed corals. You just need to be observant as a too high PH water would make your Kamfa less colorful. In a nutritional content perspective, naturally fresh shrimps are better. Always better. Live would even be ideal. Problem with fresh food are of course risk of contamination and hassle of preparation. As such, I always use the freeze dried variety.

For the growth of the kamfa, there are factors that can affect this. First of course is nutrition and condition of living quarters. But one thing we would need to see is its genetic make up. okay let me elaborate on this. These are based on my experience and probably bros like Sonny can add to this. A usual recipe in making kamfa is you get either a ZZ, fertile male KF, fertile male Kamalau or fertile male Lou han and cross it with a female parrot. Either blood parrot, King Kong or even Mammon can be used. Now let's take that recipe and analyze a bit. We all know that Luo Han or say a Hua Kok is bigger than a ZZ so therefore KF's made with LH x KKP will be bigger than ZZ x KKP. Some very good breeders would use a male ZZ that has been mixed with Luo Han blood and use them as KF breeders. These would result in producing bigger KF's. The biggest KF recorded here in the Philippines is a 19 incher. It dwarfed my 16 inch indo batik kamfa. We also know, as practiced here in the Philippines, zz x a large blood parrot would result into a KF as well. Problem with this is these KF's will never exceed or even reach more than 13" I also have a 5 year old KGM KF, which is a KML x KKP, which is rather small. I would estimate it to be 14.5 inch tip to tip. And believe me that is small for a KF that old. Why? you will notice GM's dont grow very big. Hope these makes sense. By the way, it is in my experience that KF's grow faster than ZZ's.

Can you please post pics of your Indo Batik Kamfa; even at 16" that is a big one to me.

One of the reasons we do not do large water changes on Kamfa's is the heavy load of chemicals some water sources have. During summer months, my local water is heavily dosed with chloramines and has around 50 ppm of ammonia right out of faucet. Currently I triple-dose recommended anti-chlorine levels and the conditioner in use also removes Ammonia . None of my Kamfa's have reacted negatively to water changes as large as 30% (normally do less than 10%). Edited by Mentat, Jul 18 2008, 10:54 AM.

Can you please post pics of your Indo Batik Kamfa; even at 16" that is a big one to me. Here he was when he was 14.5" I think. His tank is a 4 foot tank and note that he is at the back of the tank . You can also estimate form the picture that given his height here was more than 10"

Kamfas to me are very sensitive Fh to raise.. and yes i do believe crush corals do help out alot. again what posted are very usefull infos.. hope many would add more so we could all learn the different techniques of raising a kamfa to the fullest

His body shape reminds me of other classic and now gone fish like the Golden Apple. Your recommendations for tank size are pretty much on the money. Basically a normal fish tank should be a minimun of 3 times the adult fish lenght; and as deep as fish is long so he can turn around. Housing FH in small areas can lead to stunting, gill curling, atrophied muscle tissues and weak bone structures. All this can compromise fish health and even lead to premature death (i.e. broken backs). Also, for FH that like to do acrobatics (rolls, figure 8s, etc.) a tall tank (20-25 in. and up) is best.

Also the new generation kamfa that is coming now matures and gets a kok early like at 2-3 inch size... so do the care tips of kamfa's change.. and also with the mixing of the Vieja blood would any thing differ?
