Hey guys, need some help. Woke up today, looked at my FH and his kok got a lot smaller. Im worried something is wrong. Is he sick??? He's scratching himself against the pebbles and won't eat too. What should I do. Will head get bigger again??? |

Scratching and not eating are signs of a problem; could be water quality or parasites. Fixing that will probably fix the shrinking kok. Check your water parameters (temp, pH, Ammonia, Nitrites, and Nitrates). If any is wrong take corrective action. Try and see if you can observe fish for external parasites (ick, flukes, lice, etc.) or for clear feces. If so, fish has parasite and should medicate. Recommend use Fluke Tabs by AP if available (dose 1 tab/10 gal. on days 1 and 2 with 30% water change in between)  .

So don't have digit cam right now. Checked for parasites, there is none. Feces is clear. Just changed out entire tank with fresh drinking water and added medication. Hope that will cure him. |

never change the entire tank water.. u will be throwing out all the good bacteria that helps complete the nitrogen cycle and keep the toxic levels of nitrate under control...instead of cleaning 100% water, try changing 30% water every 3-5 days.. install a good filter.. add a little bit of non iodized salt to ur tank or aquarium salt to the tank... 1 teaspoon every 5 gallons water...... dont add medication to ur tank unless u can find a visible problem.... his feces is clear as in clear you can see through it like clear noodles or normal looking from eating food? if its clear like noodles its a sign of Hex or change of diet. |

yah they shrink when the fish are stressed. when u move them from tank to tank, net them, dont change their water, poor food, etc. means ur fish isn't happy. |
