so the fish hasnt been eating.. well there might be something wrong so you might wanna do a water change just in case.. and then just starve it for a couple of days.. thats one way. |

At this season, I highly doubt it's the temp. But make sure your water is not cold. If he still doesnt eat for another week, he probably have internal parasite. But dont worry, there is a cure for that if he has it. |

Check all water parameters to ensure ok (temp., pH, Ammonia, Nitrites). If all good, get enough Fluke Tabs by AP to conduct 2 treatments at 1 tab per 10 gal. Do first treatment, and wait 24 hours. Then do 30% water change and repeat treatment. Don't be surprised if fish starts eating after 1st treatment. Don't worry about warning medication will affect biofilter; if well established should be fine . Any color loss or other effects in fish is temporary and will return as medicine decomposes or is removed with future water changes .

true i prefer mine around 7.2 to no more than 7.8 PH from 6.0 to 7.6 is what i think be ideal.. 9.0 is a hugh spike.. too much nitrate maybe.?? |

Regular water has low ph. Take a portion of that high ph water out and add normal water in. You should know the dechlorifying procedure. And about the internal parasite, I've had a FH that wouldn't eat for over a month. I picked him up in my hand with his mouth upward above the water and squirt a big dosage of this internal parasite med from/by Gel tec. I didn't know how much of it he needed but I did it twice in a day. Then the second day he started eating. The after that he eats like a pig. I'll take a picture of the bottle for you. Or you can try other advises given. This is just mine for internal parasite. |

You should worry because it's not the way it should be. Fhs eat when you give them food. If they dont eat like they should that means some isnt right in their body or system. It doesnt feel good and it can't eat. The owner should understand. Why wait till that stage where the stomach gets sucked in to start worrying? |

great advice ADP.. yeah..its just me.. i stated ME ... i wouldnt.. for i ve had some that are hard or very picky eater..specially in a new surrounding.. at times i have to pull teeth.. testing ways to make them eat.. thats why if i see their stomach sucking, then i really have a major problem.. and yes when a fish dont eat like it does regularly then there is a problem.. just like humans.. but when is the period of worrying comes to play, all are different. to me Im not sure whats wrong with this fish, but i do believe we need to get the water parameter to within desirable numbers |

what kind of food is he eating? And do you know or able to find out the food he was eating before Do you condition the water when you do water changes? Like product "Aqua Plus"? What temperature is the water at? Any stringy whitish poo? Color like that could be just stress...but Ph way to high! Is has to be between PH is 6.0 to 7.6. Ammonia 0 Nitrate 0 Temp. 82 to 86 What size tank is he in? My first FH didnt eat for 1.5 week...i have heard some go up to 3 weeks ( just to adjust to new environment ) My second FH, is a pig, ate from day one, but just about 1.5 month ago he didnt want to eat, and i knew something was up, for he was not being himself ( refusing to eat ) So i did what Mentat posted above...and he is all well, and eats like his usual old ways...and yes the color loss, or other effects in fish is temporary...for mine the color had gone pale but now it is ok. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 25% water change every week A Flowerhorn should be feed a balanced diet. The best way to do this is select a high quality pellet containing 38-50% protein 45-48 is ideal. Pellets: Amazone Probetta Dragon Extra Dragon Humpy Starlight Alife Hikari Bio-Gold Plus Hikari Gold Hikari Staple Hikari Lionhead (high in vitamin C, to maintain healthy immune system) Grand Sumo Grand Omega Supreme Chingmix Maxima Headbooster Chingmix Maxima SP50 Aquarian Cichlid Staple New Life Spectrum Cyclops-Eeze Fresh shrimp, freeze dried shrimp, frozen blood worms, beef heart, remove all fatty and conective tissue before grinding heart meat. Frozen Ostrich heart Vegetables: Green Peas (shelled and slightly boiled to soften) Romaine lettuce leaves Cucumber slices Orange slices for extra vitamin C Strawberry slices for even more vitamin C Potatoes (again boiled to soften) Well got to go to work...keep us updated...
