I've searched through your topics looking for a more difinitive answer on what lighting is best for Flowerhorns. It seems that everyone agrees that natural light is best. Since this is not possible for me, I need to use the next best thing. I have used pink FloraSun bulbs successfully in the past and would like to get them again, but they can be pricey. I was wondering, is there a bulb at my local hardware store that would be the same spectrum and would have the same affect? |

Have you tried candle light? At night, light up a candle, use a mirror to reflect that candle light on to the fish tank. |

T5 is a size/type of bulb, not a spectrum. Edited by madwhitehat, Sep 1 2008, 10:35 PM.

I guess I'm just going to look for some lighting in the 5000k range. According to the packaging on the FloraSun bulb, that's what it was. |

That makes some sense. I picked up a bulb from Home Depot on my lunch break. It was labeled "Natural Daylight" and had a color temperature of 5000k (the same as my FloraSun bulbs). When I installed it, the light is white instead of pink. I was under the impression that 5000k displayed as pink. Now I'm confused. |

It is best to use botanical lights, the ultra violet rays emitted and will help to bring out the colors of the fish. Make sure to turn off light at night for the fish to rest. |
