Hi fellas, I have 4 small frys and a medium flowerhorn. Can anyone help me identify their strain and sex. Fish A does not have any pearl dots on it. Fish B has a big belly. Is it possible that "she" is pregnant even though it is only 2"? Fish C and D looks similar. Fish E is the biggest among all. Thank you!

Looks ZZ to me... second one could be a ZZ cross possibly, but doubtful. So many FH are mix now it is hard to tell. Those 4 will keep you busy for a while!

Thanks for your help, guys. I have some doubts, however, regarding to the reliability of identifying the sex of a fh by looking at the black marking on the dorsal fin. Isn't the marking similar to human birth mark, if so, how can one conclude that a fh with black marking on dorsal fin is a female? I know there are many experts here , any suggestions? Thanks again.

E is nice, would keep for sure.

B has possibilities and would keep for a couple months and re-evaluate. Big belly could be it eats a lot (if it goes up and down) or that tummy could be full of parasites (i.e. worms).

C could be a girl, but need clear view of anal pore to increase confidence. Dorsal black spot is not a fully reliable indicator. Some males, specially those with double rows, have it too.

good luck raising them.

i reiterate low grades and high grades are man made creations.. beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder....as long as u love ur fish, its all good!!! cool guy ..... dont get into these (usless) manmade classifications....what may seem high grade to someone may seem crap to someone else and vice versa..... yes/no

BUT YE i dig ur fish! pump them up! lifting weights

yeah, I'm pumping them up as much as I can now. Hope they can grow fast, so I can entertain you guys with the pix. Observe "ugly" frys turn into different fish bit by bit is a pretty interesting experience. It was the process of change rather than the grading attracted me into this. Unfortunately, the two have some correlations in the case of flowerhorn as more excitement comes with more kok development, color variation and body shape changes. I will be happy as long as the fish can grow to have some resemblance of flowerhorn. I will be VERY happy if they can change as much as the "father" fish of flowerhonrus. I will be Extremely happy if they change to mermaids and do my laundry for me. lol

I was wondering for flowerhorn in general, is it the male or female's job to build nest? Is stacking gravel a behavior of building nest or establishing territory? Thanks.

nope they surely do not look like trimac to me..

B is my favorite..love the short and stockiness of body.. color is there and pearls are nice..

all your fish got potentials to be MP's

they are still too small and yet got lots of potential to grow out awesome..

the last fish looks great... so are all these siblings??

and no they dont look low grade to me..

maybe some are classic looking but not low.. just gotta see how they will turn out..now that is priceless!!

Can't judge a book till you fully read it.

male or female.. the only one i think is more of sure female is the one with black tip on the dorsal fin...if they lay then they are but if not.. then its not.. that s my rule..but tube venting will definetely help./

please keep us updated
