Here are pics of FH common deformities as a result of inbreeding/hybridization. First is kinked pectoral fins... can be found commonly in GM & ZZ strains but can almost be found in all breeds. ![]() Edited by Lucky, Aug 6 2008, 12:40 PM.

More shots... it is like a wrinkled fin of sorts. Also notice just above the upper lip of the fish has a gap of tissue missing and it is not flush with the mouth. Basically not a clean structure for the mouth. This is also more common in GM & ZZ strains. Kamfa tend to have much better mouth structure without that gap above the upper lip. ![]() ![]() Edited by Lucky, Aug 6 2008, 12:46 PM.

Kink in the caudal peduncle (the narrow part of the fish's body to which the caudal or tail fin is attached) is another common deformity. This can be found particularly in Bonsai, Indo FH like Firemalau & Indo Kamfas, & ZZ. Any fish that is bred with parrot have potential for this deformity.

"Elephant God" mouth deformity... this is common in ZZ & SRT from Thailand. If they pop-up in other countries they are most often culled.

There is a lot more! When I stumble across more deformity types I will post them here. Feel free to post your scratch & dent FH here too!

Gill Plate defect or the start of a virulent bacteria? Anyhow some FH do have smaller gill-plates that are not proportional to the body. Another deformity I should point out. Watch out for small or underdeveloped gill-plates because it is a sign of weak gills, which can be problematic in the long run.

Almost forgot one of the most common deformities... spinal deformities. Bonsai! See the spinal crunch or curve...
