What do you guys know about it? We know that females will drop her tube and lay eggs by herself when she is matured enough to lay them eggs. So what about the males? How can you tell if a male is sexual mature enough to do the job right? Well, what I ended up doing is giving each one of my divided males a plate. If he cleans such plate, he is ready. However, do note that being sexual mature for male is not the same as him being all grown up. He can produce offsprings when he is not fully grown in body size. |

I think you can tell when a male is ready because they will also drop their tube not as big as the females but its noticeable . |

I think that is a good answer to this question right there BD. I have observed this myself quite a few times. Now the real question is. Out of those who extend there tubes (males), would this allow them to be considered fertile, or does it have any bearing on that factor at all? This I do not have the answer to. If I had to guess, or gamble on it I might go with yes, but who really knows? Someone, anyone hahaha

No bastardfish. I have a white eye orange kamfa who extension was so long that it looks pretty. IT was long and clear white like a noodle. LOL It stuck out when it was breeding and he went through the motion like a pro but guess what? Still infertile. I think before the tube drop, there will be sign of maturity when they be shaking the head and cleaning a spot to spawn. They can do it by themselves too so no mate is needed to tell if they are ready for mating. Here's a spin off question that I have asked before but with no answer given. We know that there are runts or the smallest frys in a batch. If we were to raise it up, they will continue to be small but 1 year has passes so they are matured. How are they going to mate if any or if possible? the reason why we don't have data for these are because we cull these so we don't get a chance to see what will happen. 2 runts looking frys going at it, will we get a plate full of eggs? I'll doubt it but I still think they can produce normal size looking flowerhorn as well. The speculation will be a reverse effect. More runts and a few normal size flowerhorn frys. |

true bro.. white eyes are mainly infertile and this is from experience as well.. I tested a kamfa with a KKP. The males tube came out and he knew exactly what he was doing but yet all the eggs were dead. and as for those culled fish I too think that these can produce ordinary offspring but perhaps some one should test this one and let us know.. this would be interesting.. |

If the FH has lots of Trimac in it or Texas it can breed within a year & at a considerably small size for both males & females. Females @3" & Males at @5". If the FH has lots of Vieja in it... can take up to as much as 3 years in some cases for it to mature + sizes for fertility lean to larger then the above from the fish needing to age. Yes NFH... parents can reveal fertility rates in the fry. For instance, red eye vs. white eye. Well white/gold/silver/blue eye leans toward parrot's genes from a parent and as we all know parrot fertility rates in males are next to none. So, white eye male FH fertility rates are slim while white eyed females fertility rates are greater like in parrots. There are rare exceptions, yet this is the general rule. |
