we are on it already. Dang this is making me mad; complication after complication. Fish tank leak then ich on it and the midas and maybe others and we figured out it came from some home made food that we got from some flowerhorn recipe. BUT on the positive side of thing we have a new home for our KGM. We got it up and running today so when he is cured of ich and the tank is cycled; he will most definately love his new home all to his self |

Looks like Ich to me... i would treat it right away...i use quick cure but it stains the silicone in my tank and is really blue... if you can get your hand on something else or if someone can recommend a better med then i would start treatment right away before it spreads... good luck! he's a nice fish too. |

Make sure to add some salt, and pump the temp to high like 86 - 88 degree. Ich should be gone in a few day. Good luck bro. |

As far as I know Food cannot cause ich, it is an infection.... Bacteria and other organisms live in all tanks and when the immune system of the fish gets suppressed, the fish becomes susceptible to problems.... |

We are pretty sure it is from the raw meat mixture we created. Every tank that we fed with the mixture Ich apears. Edited by ProvidersInc, Jun 29 2009, 06:01 PM.

Ich is caused by a pathogen that affects the external surface of the body. Meat can cause internal problems such as tummy upset by consuming meat cannot cause an external problem... As far as I know fish are not allergic to meat and hence an allergic reaction to the meat is not possible.. You should examine your water parameters since water can cause such problems.. maybe your tap water's ph or some other parameter was not right and it caused stress to your FH during a water change hence they became susceptible to ich. We may feel a lot of things but our feelings are not facts... Sorry to sound harsh but science says that ich is caused by environmental factors and not by eating meat.... |

Fish ick is caused by stress and the fish’s immune system. Definitely check your water quality often when feeding meat. Meat isn’t the carrier. It is the stress put on fish when feeding meat from all the organic matter in the water. You should add salt & raise oxygen levels in addition to a higher temp for treatment. Uncontrollable or recurrent infestation with protozoans like ick are indicative of husbandry problems. |

88* F seems to be the sweet spot . Kept there for 7 days and no more ICH here ever again. At this temp the life cycle is sped up immensely and the ICH can not multiply. Just don`t half step as there have been temp resistant strains found

Just wondering but is it possible to get ich from too much water changes? We try to keep our tanks emaculate so we do a 25% percent water change every single day. I mean i never had before but since i have 3 extra sets of hands we figured why not and just do water changes everyday to keep crystal clear water and have no poop on the floor... could this be a reason? |
