They layed their eggs yesterday and it was a little sooner than expected since they had only been together about 3 days. About 15 of the eggs are white and the rest are still brown. The blood parrot is just fanning the eggs in the pot and the male is just fighting his reflection in the glass. Both are very comfortable with each other and neither one is eating the eggs or threatening the other. I will post pics as soon as i can find the charger to either one of my cameras. This was the blood parrots first time laying in about the last 6 months since i had her in a community tank for a while so she didnt lay as near as much as she normally does but i have a feeling their next spawn will be massive once again. Still there is a few hundred and hopefully there will be quite a few nice RT's.
o yeah and i plan on taking the most pearly/best fry and breeding it with a midas to bring in more Kok genes.. I think i have a good plan imo

You guys will have to just do with these pics for now because i cant find the charger to my digital camera, so please excuse my 3.0 mp G1 phone camera. Also the light on their tank is really old, dingy, no longer white but has a very dim yellow color. I figured i would change the lighting once the bulb died. So their colors are not too acurate but i will get better quality pics ASAP

Thanks Bud, i figured i would try putting the kok genes in last so i dont accidently breed the kok genes out. So going the opposite way of you haha, good luck to you too. Hopefully since we are doing the same thing in opposite directions we can kinda use this as an experiment and compare our results. By the way rgaray, what is cyano?

cyano pearls are more spotted and with breeding pattern, Carpintis the black goes up to the chin and with cyano, back half of the body. Cyanoguttatum spots are small and not very blue .

your pairs looks awesome josh... keep up the good work!!
here is a pic of a true cyano.. also the cyano species grows bigger than a carpintis

I have plenty of eye balls now, im thinking they will hatch either tonight or tomorrow on superbowl sunday :) im excited for this, i am gonna do what it takes to create some nice SRT. By the way, my friend nick and i bought some really nice baby koksters and his grew huge. And it is a definite kokster. Soon we will be breeding him with this beautiful fh that we pray is a female. If it is we will have the highest quality fry. Im excited

The picture that Vanz posted. That is a cyano brotha. That's how I think yours is gonna turn out. I don't think yours is a carpintis or carpinte. It's probably a mixture of both.

I woke up this morning to turn on the light and see my big pleco in the pot where the eggs are. He ate more than half of them but there is still about 50 eggs left that are all starting to hatch. Its pretty fun watching them come out of their shell.

From what I know, the eggs should be kept alone (or with parents) but no other fish should be in the tank so that the eggs remain safe....

Congrats on the newly hatched :)

Yeah, they all hatched today and i went out for a superbowl party to come back to nothing. Lesson learned. Move the parents from the eggs. Time to try again

So i think my blood parrot is gonna lay again soon. This time im gonna take out the blood parrot and leave my male texas in the tank to watch over the eggs and fry. Doesnt sound like a smart plan even to my own ear but something tells me he will be a good parent. For one he has over 300 babies in my 100 gallon tank that he made with a green texas female and they both took good care of the babies and didnt even eat 1. This is a risk, but if it fails and he is the culprit in why i have no babies from my last batch, then i will remove both parents the next time.

So, i have literally over 1000+ eyeballs and i am not sure what to do. Last time when the eggs hatched someone ate all the fry and i can only guess it was the parrot bc the male lived and grew out hundreds of fry with my female texas a few months ago. I am in a tie with taking the pot that the eggs are in and putting them in another small tank with water from the original tank or should i take the female out and let the male try to take care of this batch by himself? I would just take both parents out but i kind of need the male so that he can keep the fry out of the gravel in the tank.. he cleared out a huge empty patch but fry tend to bounce around until they are in gravel and then sift to the bottom and die. I could easily put the pot in another tank with the exact same water temp etc and the tank is bare bottom but i dont know how much of a rish it would be to transport this far into their development and since its bare bottom i dont think it will have the microbacteria in the tank necessary for the fry to feed on and survive. Suggestions please

if you have a spong filter put that in the tank the fry can and will feed off the spong till you can feed baby brine shrimp. plus the spong filter will help in the filtration

now what I have done in the past was to take and put the gravel to one side of the tank. and put up a divider and use tulle wraped around the egg crate so the fry cant get into the gravel.
